The best way to protect yourself when booking travel
“If you’re looking to get the most protection possible when you book your airfare, hotels, or car rentals, then use a travel agent,” says Kaufman. “They’ve got lots of insider information what’s happening in the travel industry, they know which airlines are doing well and which ones aren’t. They can give you the scoop and make sure that you won’t run into any problems with airlines, hotels, and etc.”

True Travel Stories.  What could go wrong?

Clients booked their beautiful condominium online and paid-in-full.  Upon arriving at their destination they discovered that the condominium doesn't exist.  Then they called a travel agent who saved the rest of their trip.

A traveler bought $4500 of airline tickets online.  Never received the tickets and found that the brand new credit card was used fraudulently overseas within days of the purchase.

A traveler using miles arrived at the Rome Airport for her flight returning back to the U.S.  Her online ticket information was in-hand as she arrived two hours early for the flight but she missed her flight.  The airline changed the ticket without her knowing.  They didn't accept responsibility for the error and said they'd put her on a waitlist daily until she a flight became available which would probably be in about 5 days.  Hotels were running at about $500 a nt with a poor exchange rate.  After checking into a hotel she emailed her travel agent who got her confirmed on a seat leaving the next morning at no charge.

A frequent situation that occurs is, upon arriving at the hotel you booked online they have no reservation for you.

For months you've had your Spring Break vacation planned and the family is excited.  Your condo and airline tickets are paid for.  A week before the departure date the airline changes schedules so there's no way for you to get a flight.  All other flights are full and the airline policy is a refund for the tickets and nothing more.  In this case a travel agent saved the day with creative routing and an overnight stay in a connection city.

A honeymoon couple insists on staying at a hotel undergoing renovations.  They find  workmen everywhere and materials all along the hallways so they called their travel agent and asked to move.  She found them a great place for the rest of their trip AND through her sources had the first hotel refund payment for the first two nights they stayed there.
